Lego Birthday Party

We celebrated Andrew's birthday with a Lego party.  We loaded up our van with our two boys, one cousin, and 3 little church friends and headed on a field trip to the Lego Store in Charlotte.  6 boys... an hour and 15 minutes away...to a mall...the last Saturday shopping day before Christmas. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit nervous. But luckily, Andrew has very nice and well behaved friends.    The boys were FABULOUS and we had a great time!  We watched a Lego Star Wars movie that Andrew received as an early birthday present from us.

The Lego store was not prepared and scrambled at the last minute to throw a party together despite the fact we called and confirmed THREE times let the boys build robotic computerized Lego catapults at the birthday party.  At first, it was a bit over the boys' heads, as you can tell by the looks they are giving the Lego employee in charge. (This is normally an activity they do with 10-12 year olds, NOT 7 year olds).

But eventually they all got the hang of it and had a great time!  What is not to love about shooting balls at each other and knocking things over? Or making a computer across the room launch the robot you made?

After they built and launched the catapults, everyone got to make 3 minifigures to bring home.

We ate pizza and marshmallow Lego heads for lunch before we headed back to the van.

Andrew opened his birthday presents in the backseat and then we headed home!

It was a fun party.   It was also kind of nice to have it somewhere other than our home.  I love at home parties.  I love to throw parties.  But sometimes, trying to turn our basement garage into the planet Mars or a Super Hero hide out the week of Christmas, can create extra chaos and a stressed out mom and dad.  Believe it or not, taking them to a mall an hour away was less stressful.   I might have to see where we can encourage him to have his party next year.
