Nutcracker 2013

It is our family's tradition for Mommy to take our children to the Nutcracker when they are in First Grade. This year was Ryan's turn to go.  He was a fun date.  He enjoyed the ballet, but was most impressed by the scenery and special effects.  He asked questions almost the entire time about the snow, the backdrops, the lighting.  How did the tree grow?  What was Mother Ginger's dress made out of? A table?  However he was most amazed that a portrait turned into a window that showed Herr Drosselmeyer and then turned back into a picture again.   It was fun to see it through his eyes.  He did say he thought it would have been even better with singing and talking, too though.

He enjoyed learning how to take "selfies" on my phone.

Jen and Evin were also at the same showing.  It was a fun surprise! Evin spotted us across the theater. We met up at intermission.  Too funny!

After the ballet, Ryan requested we stop for gelato and hot chocolate.

I realized as I was posting these pics, that Andrew wore the exact same sweater when he went in first grade.
